Horsing Around: A Fun Date Night Idea

  • News

A trip to the movies? Too unspectacular. A meal at a fancy restaurant? Been there, done that. A couple’s horseback riding date on one of our exquisite Pine Hill Ranch trails? Now we’re talking!

You can stop searching for “date night ideas near me”— you will not find a more romantic or entertaining date than a sunset ride at our ranch.

Each of our bespoke trail rides is available for up to four people. We customize each ride to the couple or group to make the experience as special for you as we can. For the couples who want to experience nature together, we offer two packages to suit your needs: you can choose between a half-day trail ride (which lasts four hours), or one of our hourly trail rides. Both packages include a bring-your-own-picnic option, as well as access to our private lounge (with kitchenette), and of course, a chance to experience our romantic and intimate horse-trail rides alongside your partner.

In order for you to ride our trails at Pine Hill Ranch, we must certify you. However, there is no need to worry about your horseback riding date night. We offer a custom skill and safety evaluation program so we can ensure that you have a wonderful experience out on our trails.

How to prepare for your horse-trail ride

In order to guarantee that you have a perfect date night with us, we have prepared a list of things to consider before your date. After all, if you are used to coming up with creative date night ideas, you will be used to preparing for them, too.

Wear the right clothing

One of the key ingredients to a romantic horseback riding date is the clothing you wear. While your typical date night ideas might include a beautiful dress or a stylish suit, horse-trail rides take a little bit more thought.

You will want to prepare comfortable pants that are not too baggy. Stray from shorts, as they are a sure-fire way to cause chafing. Ensure that your pants are not made from rough material that will cause either yourself or the horse discomfort during continuous riding.

Next, you will want to consider some closed-toe shoes with a small heel. If you are unsure about whether or not your footwear will be suitable, feel free to contact us so we can advise you.

Finally, you should consider the weather that will accompany you on your ride. During the summer, you may be tempted to bring a hat, but as you will be wearing a helmet, a baseball cap is your only option here. During the winter, you can bring gloves to keep your hands warm and provide a sturdier grip on the reins.

Learn how to ride a horse

We will guide you through the process of riding a horse, whether it is your first time or you are a bit more experienced. The most important thing is to remain confident. All of our horses are used to carrying passengers, and they can tell if you are feeling uneasy or not. Follow the instructions of our experts, and sit up straight with a gentle hold on the reins. By keeping a foot in each stirrup, you will maintain balance and take some pressure off the horse’s back. Direct the horse by making gentle movements left or right. To stop, pull back on the reins gently and push your heels downwards. For everything else, our highly trained instructors will take care of you.

Prepare your picnic beforehand

One of the best things about our horseback riding trails is that they combine two of the most fun and creative date ideas – horseback riding and picnics. It is perfectly romantic for any couple, whether you are enjoying your first date or are celebrating many years of love together.

When it comes to your picnic basket, you will want to include a few key items. Luckily for you, our private lounge comes with full amenities, so you need not worry about bringing your whole kitchen with you.

Start with finger foods that are easy to eat and will not be too messy. Some of our favorites include celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, crackers, mini pizza squares, and sandwiches. You will, of course, want to accompany your finger foods with appropriate dips. We recommend pesto, hummus, and honey.

Adding some fruit will really up your picnic-basket game. We suggest grapes, apples, or pears—and, of course, the pièce de résistance—strawberries. No romantic date is complete without the fruit of love.

For the main course, you have several great options. Wraps and rolls come highly recommended. They are easy to prepare, and you can customize them as you wish. Lasagnas, pastas, or salads are also great dishes for any picnic.

Finally, you can never go wrong with cheese and wine. Go for a firm cheese, such as Swiss, feta, or cheddar, to ensure they will not get sticky on a hot day.
