Meet The Pine Hill Ranch’s Horse of the Year: Chocolate Monster

  • News

Chocolate Monster is a 17-year-old AQHA Bay gelding. He joined our team at the Pine Hill Ranch Equestrian Center just a few short months ago. The Pine Hill Ranch Equestrian Center is a brand new, state of the art, premier riding academy located in central Arkansas. Owner, Bob Mullenax, had a dream and vision to bring the world of horses into his community. To provide a space for people of any age, and any level of experience to enjoy the equestrian lifestyle. And that he did! Located just 20 minutes outside of Little Rock this equine oasis sits on 250 acres with miles of manicured trails, two riding arenas, and a world-class equestrian facility.

As program director, Stacey Garrett started to assemble the team of elite lesson horses for PHR, she pulled from her personal experience and knowledge of the American Quarter Horse. It is always an amazing opportunity to have a horse with such talent and heart as Chocolate Monster introduced into a beginner riding program. This 16.1 hand, tall, dark, and handsome hunk of a horse is everything Pine Hill Ranch wanted for people to experience about horses. He’s caring, gentle, patient, and best of all has the best sense of humor. Every day he brings his silly personality and fun-loving attitude to each and every student. Having Chocolate in the barn is such a privilege and joy.

This dream horse however doesn’t come without his own story of strength and perseverance. After years of competitive training and a successful show career, it had taken a toll on Chocolate Monsters’ overall health. The previous owner Kim Gartman made the best decision for him two years ago and retired him from the competition. Chocolate now was able to enjoy a life of leisure relaxing in the beautiful pastures in central Arkansas. It was only after an unexpected opening at the Pine Hill Ranch that Chocolate Monster was concerned for the position.

In March of 2020 Chocolate Monster was officially transferred to the family at PHR. With the promise of his best self always being first and foremost, this horse in return has shined brighter in that lesson arena than any other day in the toughest, and most upper-level Show pen. His desire and willingness to teach and his ability to bring joy and safe experiences to everyone that has the privilege to know and love him is why I’m nominating him for this recognition. We at The Pine Hill Ranch Equestrian Center strongly believe in what the Certified Horsemanship Association stands for and promotes. It is why our instructors carry your certifications and our facility will be going through your site accreditation.

Chocolate Monster will always be a winner and honored guest in our barn, but felt like his journey to and with us was worth sharing. Thank you for your consideration and time to add to Chocolate Monsters’ list of accolades.
